Welcome to The Cab Yard – A Unique Railway Experience
The Cab Yard is a specialist sub-group of the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway, located at Cynheidre in Carmarthenshire, just five miles from Llanelli. We are dedicated to preserving, restoring, and showcasing locomotive and multiple-unit driving cabs, with additional storage space currently in Bridgend where many of our cabs are kept.
Our mission is to create a welcoming, inclusive attraction that offers a unique glimpse into the world of train driving. Our collection includes over 30 up cycled cab units from across the UK’s railway history—ranging from mainline locomotives to industrial and underground units. Some are fully restored and ready to explore, while others are undergoing various stages of restoration.
A key goal of The Cab Yard is to offer a “Safe Place”—an accessible, calming environment where individuals with mobility challenges and those living with autism can enjoy immersive and meaningful experiences. We want everyone to have the chance to step inside a cab and see the railway through the eyes of the driver.
We’re also developing an exciting train simulator using a Class 442 cab, allowing visitors to engage with a realistic, hands-on driving experience. This will be the first of a number of simulator conversion projects, in partnership with TS Controllers.
Get Involved
Whether you’re a rail enthusiast, a family looking for a fun and educational outing, or someone interested in volunteering, you’re very welcome at The Cab Yard. Children love playing in the cabs, and adults enjoy the nostalgia and history on display.
We’re in the early stages of growing our volunteer base and would love to hear from anyone interested in helping us build and maintain this unique attraction. There’s a place here for all skill levels and backgrounds—every helping hand makes a difference.
You can follow our antics on Facebook or through the Projects page on this site, even better come and see us, the kettle is usually on.
